Description

1836 Classic Head Half Eagle
Condition Census Block 8, HM-2, MS64 CAC

1836 $5 Block 8, HM-2, High R.4, MS64 NGC. CAC. Ex: SB Pulaski. In his well-researched reference book on Classic Head Gold, Daryl Haynor states "the highest grade found is AU58", making this HM- 2 the highest graded example for both NGC and PCGS grading services. Both sides have rim-to-rim die cracks, leading to the scarcity of this variety.

Deep yellow-gold blankets the surfaces of this Uncirculated Classic Head half eagle, designed by Chief Engraver William Kneass. A good strike sets off the lively luster of this appealing example. Very limited small marks qualify the coin for CAC approval. The coin is from the Steam Boat Pulaski shipwreck and is sure to entice strong bidding.
