Description

1852-C Half Eagle, MS63+
Naturally Appealing Surfaces
Rare With CAC Approval

1852-C $5 MS63+ PCGS. CAC. Winter-1. When considering the issue as a whole, the 1852-C half eagle is reasonably collectible. It claims a mintage of 72,574 coins, of which Doug Winter estimates 300 to 350 examples survive. However, of the 253 submissions to PCGS and the 261 grading events at NGC, the average assessment awarded is fractionally better than XF45. To be sure, this Plus-graded, CAC-approved representative in MS63 must rank among the best examples any collector could ever hope to obtain. It is strongly detailed for the type and beautifully preserved with splashes of natural coppery color over semiprooflike green-gold surfaces. Population: 4 in 63 (2 in 63+), 5 finer. CAC: 7 in 63, 2 finer (11/24).
