Description

1883-CC Half Eagle, MS61
A Rarity in Mint State

1883-CC $5 MS61 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Well struck and lustrous with rich orange-gold color. There are some noticeable abrasions including a few in the left obverse field but these are not out of keeping with the assigned grade, and they serve as pedigree markers. This is one of just a handful of known examples for this date in Uncirculated condition. The finest of these is a lone MS63 PCGS coin, which last appeared in our auctions in our August 2022 ANA Signature, where it realized $96,000.

Carson City half eagles from the 1880s are much less rare than their counterparts from the 1870s. The 1881-CC is easily the rarest of the five issues from this decade, while the 1883-CC and the 1884-CC are in the next tier.
