Description

1929 Half Eagle, MS64
A Choice Higher-End Example

1929 $5 MS64 PCGS. The typical grade range seen for the 1929 half eagle is MS62 to MS64, with finer pieces being notoriously rare and far out of reach for most collectors. Thus, attractive MS64 pieces are usually the best balance of quality, eye appeal, and cost of acquisition. That is where the current example stands out. It yields a bold strike and rich straw-gold mint luster across mostly clean fields. Only a few small marks in the left obverse margin prevent an even finer grade, while the overall eye appeal is excellent.

Although some 662,000 half eagles were struck in 1929, marking the first coinage of this denomination since 1916, the majority of these were never released to commercial use and were later melted in the 1930s. Perhaps only a few hundred examples were paid out and survive today.(Registry values: N4719)
