Description

1912 Half Eagle, PR66
Ex: Richmond Collection

1912 $5 JD-1, R.4, PR66 NGC. Ex: Richmond Collection. The entire 1912 production was delivered in March of that year. Today, only 80 to 100 1912 proofs are thought to survive in all grades, which makes this date one of the more plentiful proof Indian Head fives in the series. In light of the collector demand, the 1912 is slightly more challenging than the 1911 proofs. NGC has certified only 38 examples, mainly in PR66 and PR67, possibly including resubmissions. An example of this caliber appears at auction on average about once a year, and the quality varies widely between specimens. this golden-brown example incredibly eye-appealing for the grade, with faint olive overtones on the luminous matte surfaces. Preservation is outstanding, with a slightly finer grain to the matte finish of this proof and nary a mark or abrasion evident. Census: 13 in 66, 20 finer (11/24).
