Description

1851 Double Eagle, MS61
Highly Elusive in Mint State

1851 $20 MS61 NGC. A wonderfully preserved Type One twenty, with nearly unabraded, satiny-smooth fields and sharply struck rims and motifs. The coloration is a captivating greenish-gold with bright mint luster glowing across surfaces that in places are semireflective. More than 2 million double eagles were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1851, yet any Uncirculated survivor is a prize and this example in particular deserves thoughtful consideration. Census: 29 in 61 (1 in 61+), 32 finer (4/16).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268H, PCGS# 8904, Greysheet# 9786)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
