1807 Capped Bust Half Dollar, VF25
O-111b, Strong 'Bearded Goddess' Die Break
Inimitable
Guide Book Variety

1807 50C Capped Bust, Bearded Goddess, O-111b, R.5, VF25 PCGS. The early die state of O-111 is rarer by leaps and bounds, but it is the late die state that attracts the most interest from collectors at all levels -- and the later the die state, the better. Few collectors pay heed to other die characteristics (Large Stars, 50/20 denomination, and a high 1 in the date missing its lower-left serif). This late state O-111b shows a connected crack between the chin and chest of Liberty with traces of the same crack through the mouth, in front of the eye, to the headband, and beyond. Its lower reaches are traced through the drapery approaching the exergue. Intense and colorful rainbow iridescence visits the surfaces of this solid VF Bearded Goddess, with well-struck motifs and sharp eye appeal. An even longer but less-interesting parallel crack connects the left-hand stars.
