Description

1873-CC Double Eagle, AU58
Rare in Higher Grades, CAC Endorsed

1873-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Winter 1-A. The 1873-CC is more plentiful than the 1870-CC and 1871-CC double eagles, and it is similar in rarity to the 1872-CC. However, it is several times scarcer overall than most later Carson City issues in the double eagle series. Most 1873-CC twenties that survive grade in XF or low AU levels. Nearly Mint State coins such as the current coin are scarce, and finer pieces in full Mint State are decidedly rare. This example displays a bold strike and shows only minor discernible wear, with warm peach-gold surfaces and mainly light abrasions. The few scattered marks are individually grade-consistent and serve as useful pedigree markers. Population: 74 in 58 (1 in 58+), 25 finer. CAC: 16 in 58, 3 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N2998)
