Description

1873-S Double Eagle, MS63
CAC-Approved Closed 3 Coin
Among the Finest Certified

1873-S $20 Closed 3 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. Small S mintmark. The handful of 1873-S Closed 3 double eagles to achieve the MS63 grade level are led by this CAC-endorsed example. The coin displays outstanding visual appeal as defined by its sharp strike, vibrant orange-gold mint luster, and minimally marked frosted surfaces. Most top-graded Closed 3 coins (there are only a few) are heavily abraded with at least one notable mark or abrasion, yet this example shows far fewer marks, none of which stand out for the assigned grade. Scattered reeding marks suggest coin-to-coin contact incurred during shipping or handling. Brief areas of bag grime give way to the overall attractive surface quality, adding a natural touch to the pleasing original patina. This is the sole CAC-endorsed example of this challenging issue at the Select Uncirculated level. PCGS Population: 7 in 63, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N7079)
