1840-O Quarter Eagle, MS61
Rare in Mint State

1840-O $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. The 1840-O is a scarce early New Orleans quarter eagle issue with only 100 to 125 examples believed extant, per Doug Winter, and is rarely seen in any Mint State grade. This flashy representative displays bright yellow-gold luster and minimal abrasions. The central regions are softly struck, as is typical of this early branch mint issue. Census: 5 in 61, 6 finer (8/14).(Registry values: P2)
