Description

1846 Liberty Eagle, AU55
Low-Mintage Philadelphia Issue

1846 $10 AU55 NGC. Only 20,095 Liberty eagles were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1846 and it is unlikely that any were saved for numismatic purposes. Accordingly, the 1846 is a scarce-to-rare issue in all grades today, and high-grade examples are extremely rare. This attractive Choice AU specimen shows just a trace of wear on the well-detailed design elements and the lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain a few traces of original mint luster. Census: 12 in 55, 9 finer (7/19).
