Description

1885 Gold Dollar, PR66
High-End CAC Condition Rarity

1885 G$1 PR66 PCGS. CAC. JD-2, R.5. Two die varieties are known for the 1885 proof, combined having produced the coinage of 1,105 pieces -- one of the higher proof coinages in the series. Heavy Longacre doubling on the obverse border legend serves as the main pick-up point for the JD-2 dies. In total, as many as 300 examples of this proof issue are believed to survive, giving collectors an accessible option in the otherwise incredibly challenging proof gold pursuit. However, this Premium Gem example is conditionally rare. A sharp strike complements deeply mirrored fields, while each side shows lovely yellow-gold color. Eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 14 in 66, 2 finer. CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (4/24).(Registry values: P1)
