Description

1804 S-266b, B-1 Cent, VF30
Middle Die State

1804 1C S-266b, B-1, R.2, VF30 PCGS. The intermediate die state has a rim break over RTY on the obverse but no rim break on the reverse. The die states of 1804 are highly collectible and even carry their own Sheldon subvariety labels of a, b, and c. In all other instances among the early cents, the subvariety labels are reserved for edge changes or planchet differences. This pleasing representative has olive and dark brown surfaces with splashes of lighter tan on the obverse and traces of reddish corrosion on the reverse. A few small areas of dark green verdigris are also visible, along with several old scratches on the portrait, but overall, this middle state 1804 cent is pleasing and quite collectible. Our EAC grade Fine 15.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2011), lot 5020.
