Description
1907 High Relief Twenty, AU Details
Flat Rim
1907 $20 High Relief, Flat Rim -- Filed Rims -- PCGS Genuine. AU
Details. The high rims on the High Relief twenties were
intended to protect the interior design elements from excessive
abrasions in the fields of commerce. However, they also provided a
wide target for the "ungodly" (as Walter Breen once wrote) to file
just a bit of gold from each side with minimal loss in value. The
cumulative effect over the course of handling numerous gold coins
in a day's time would have been a nice golden bonus for the person
doing the filing. This piece shows slight friction over the high
points of the devices as well as in the fields, and there are
numerous small contact marks scattered across both obverse and
reverse, none of which are individually noticeable or distracting.
Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
