Challenging Philadelphia Issue

1856 $20 AU55 NGC. The 1856 Liberty double eagle claims a nominal mintage of 329,878 pieces, making the date more difficult to locate than most Philadelphia issues of the decade. The vivid greenish-gold surfaces of this attractive Choice AU specimen are lightly abraded, with a scratch in the right reverse field the only mark worthy of individual mention. Lustrous and appealing. Census: 57 in 55, 64 finer (7/13).(Registry values: N1793)
