1909-S VDB Cent, MS66+ Red
Premium Quality Key Date

1909-S 1C VDB MS66+ Red PCGS. CAC. The 1909-S VDB cents created a sensation when they were released in 1909, and even today, well over a century later, eager collectors line up (just as they did in San Francisco years ago) to obtain the nicest example they can possibly reach for.

The present piece should be given serious consideration. Given its MS66+ PCGS grade, it falls into the "virtually MS67 without the money" camp, and the CAC endorsement (even though CAC is said to ignore Plus grades) is a further boost up the grade-and-value ladder for most potential buyers. Turning to the coin itself, it displays splendid luster on surfaces that are completely Red throughout (as PCGS defines the term), although there is some expected color range from tan-orange to nearly cherry-red visible on surfaces that are completely free of any mentionable distractions. The VDB initials and the intervening periods are all sharp, as is the strike elsewhere throughout both sides. This obverse is the usually seen die #4, showing the lowest mintmark of the four known obverses and the S mintmark nearly left-aligned with the left side of the 0. A beautiful example worthy of a premium bid. Population: 15 in 66+ Red, 13 finer (11/15).(Registry values: N2998)
