Description

Circulated 1793 Half Cent

1793 1/2 C Fine 12 ANACS. B-4, C-4, R.3. The first-year 1793 is also the only Half Cent of this type in U.S. coinage history. An obviously important survivor from an original mintage of 35,344 pieces, this is a mostly orange-brown example with a pleasingly glossy sheen. The central devices retain at least outline definition, a few small scratches through the center of the obverse portrait are the only mentionable abrasions. A toning spot is also noted in the field before Liberty's chin.
