AU Details 1895 Proof Morgan Dollar
1895 $1 -- Scratches -- NGC Details. Proof, AU. With a proof-only mintage of just 880 pieces and some of those coins inevitably lost, the 1895 Morgan dollar is the definitive "stopper" of its series, avidly pursued regardless of condition. This example is an impaired proof, lightly rubbed across the high points with significant contact marks and several staple scratches to the left of the portrait. Yet gold-toned surfaces remain appreciably reflective, especially in the protected areas, and the coin's impairment grants it a look closer to a business strike than a proof, an appearance that may make it even more relevant to a set of otherwise Mint State pieces.Auction Info
