1850 $5 Moffat & Co. Five Dollar AU50 PCGS. K-7, R.4. The
Small Eagle variety. This well defined and satiny green-gold
representative is smooth aside from faint hairlines and a linear
mark on the top of the eagle. Moffat & Co. was the most respected
of the Gold Rush coiners, and their reputation lived up to the
abbreviation S.M.V. (for Standard Mint Value) on the reverse
legend. Listed on page 380 of the 2014 Guide Book.
