1870-CC Liberty Head Half Eagle, XF Details
Rarest Carson City Half Eagle

1870-CC $5 --Holed--NGC Details. XF. Variety 1-A. The 1870-CC Liberty Head half eagle is extremely popular as a low-mintage, first-year type coin. Only 7,675 half eagles were minted in 1870, the first year of operation for the Carson City Mint. Doug Winter believes only 50-60 examples are still extant in all grades. The present coin is lightly worn with much original detail still evident on the devices. The pleasing greenish-gold surfaces are not heavily abraded, but the coin was holed for suspension at 12 o'clock.(Registry values: P3)
