World War II Pattern

1942 1C Cent, Judd-2062, Pollock-4045, Low R.7, MS61 NGC. Part of the World War II effort to divert copper from the U.S. cent, this design was tried in various unusual materials. The portrait is taken from the KM-198 Columbia two centavos. The wreath is from a GW-444 Washington medalet. Struck in red plastic with a plain edge. Burdette's First Reverse with a high I in UNITED. Toned deep purple with peripheral glimpses of russet. Evenly and lightly granular from oxidation. An obverse lamination near 10:30 is an identifier. The reverse legend is indistinct.
