Description

1813 BD-1 Half Eagle, XF Details
Clashed Dies

1813 $5 BD-1, R.2 -- Repaired -- PCGS Genuine. XF Details. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b shows light clash marks in the interior spaces of RTY on the obverse, and in the shield on the reverse. Indistinct border details and light hairlines are noted on the green-gold surfaces of this first-year design type. Following the Capped Bust varieties that were struck from 1807 to 1812, Chief Engraver Robert Scot and his staff modified the design to this Capped Head style. Scot was born about 1744 and died in 1823. He served the Mint for 30 years after receiving his commission in November 1793.
