Description

1860-C Half Eagle, AU58
Partially Lustrous

1860-C $5 AU58 PCGS. Winter-1. All 14,813 half eagles struck at the Charlotte Mint in 1860 were produced with a single die pair. The reverse die was improperly annealed at the Philadelphia engravers' department, and surviving coins show a "fuzzy" eagle motif as a result. This near-Mint coin boasts moderate luster throughout honey-gold surfaces. Minor abrasions and slight softness on the hair curls around Liberty's face are noted. Eye appeal is pleasing for this challenging Southern gold issue. Population: 18 in 58, 12 finer (12/24).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VG, PCGS# 8285, Greysheet# 9033)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
