Description

1877-S Half Eagle, AU58
Original Luster, CAC Endorsed

1877-S $5 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. San Francisco half eagle coinage in 1877 amounted to 26,700 pieces, but the date is much scarcer today than that figure could suggest. Only a few Mint State pieces are known, and even high-end AU coins are rare. This near-Mint CAC coin is one of the top two pieces with CAC endorsed and it is just outside the Condition Census of the certified population. Rose-gold luster clings to the protected areas, while olive-gold patina characterizes the handled portions of the fields and devices. Some field marks on the obverse are worthy of mention. Population: 6 in 58, 4 finer. CAC: 1 in 58, 1 finer (12/24).
Ex: The Fairmont Collection - Hendricks Set (Stack's Bowers, 4/2022), lot 5145.(Registry values: P3)
