Description
1903 McKinley Gold Dollar, PR65 Cameo
Outstanding Quality, One of 100 Minted
1903 G$1 McKinley PR65 Cameo PCGS. Gold CAC. Issued in
combination with the Jefferson portrait gold dollars to commemorate
the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, just 100 1903 McKinley gold
dollars were produced and distributed to Exposition insiders and
government officials. The tiny mintage -- with 80 to 90 pieces
thought to survive -- makes these proof dollars great rarities for
collectors of commemorative gold.Unlike some examples of the issue, this Gem proof retains its original strike characteristics with deeply reflective fields and frosted, cameo devices. Apricot-gold color and abundant mint luster have the appeal of a newly minted proof despite its 110-year age. A few random flecks and some weak obverse dentils perhaps keep this glowing dollar from an even higher grade. Significantly, CAC awarded its gold label indicating this Gem coin is exceptional for the assigned numeric grade. Population: 3 in 65 Cameo, 1 finer (11/13).
