Description

1842 Large Date Ten Dollar, MS61
Richly Lustrous CAC Example

1842 $10 Large Date MS61 PCGS. CAC. The 1842 Liberty eagle survivorship is well divided between the Small and Large Date logotypes, although the Large Date variety is slightly more plentiful. PCGS lists only nine Large Date coins in Mint State. But even rare are CAC-approved Mint State pieces. This is the sole MS61-graded 1842 Large Date with a CAC green seal, and no finer pieces are so distinguished. Rich peach-gold luster glows in the fields on each side. The border stars and some of the hair curls around Liberty's face show the customary softness common to early Liberty tens, but the eagle is bold, attesting to this coin's above-average definition. Scattered abrasions on the obverse determine the grade. Population: 1 in 61, 6 finer. CAC: 1 in 61, 0 finer (12/24).(Registry values: P6)
