Description

1927-S Peace Dollar, MS65
Challenging in High Grade

1927-S $1 MS65 NGC. The San Francisco Mint struck only 866,000 Peace dollars in 1927, marking the third-lowest mintage of the series. Gem-quality survivors are seldom available and command strong bids at auction. Finer pieces are prohibitively rare. We have only ever handled a single coin numerically finer than this Gem example -- an MS66 PCGS example that garnered nearly $49,000 in our April 2011 Central States Signature sale. This piece is sharp and frosty with brilliant surfaces. Only a few minute marks are observed. Census: 81 in 65 (4 in 65+), 1 finer (11/17).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 257U, PCGS# 7372, Greysheet# 7908)

Weight: 26.73 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
