Description
1847 Quarter Eagle, MS61
Mint State Rarity
1847 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. The low mintage of just 29,814 pieces
puts the 1847 Philadelphia issue on a par with the New Orleans,
Dahlonega and Charlotte branch mint issues of the year, although it
is seldom recognized as such. The Philadelphia date is decidedly
more scarce in Mint State than any of its mintmarked counterparts.
This bright, yellow-gold example is minimally marked for the grade,
although die polish lines are joined by some hair-thin abrasions.
The strike on the eagle is typically soft, as always seen for the
issue. Census: 7 in 61, 9 finer (3/15).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25H5, PCGS# 7744, Greysheet# 8268)
Weight: 4.18 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
