Description

Gem Proof 1858 Half Dime, Proof 66 PCGS

1858 H10C PR66 PCGS. An important proof striking. Only an estimated 80 proofs were produced in 1858, which was the first year the mint stepped up the numbers of proofs coined to meet the demand from the general collecting public. This is also the only year that one can hope to locate a Stars Half Dime in proof (remember the 1859 is a separate design type). The fields are deeply mirrored and the surfaces are deeply toned as well with violet centers surrounded by cobalt-blue at the margins. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (12/04).(#4437) (Registry values: P5)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 235N, PCGS# 4437, Greysheet# 3905)
