Description

(1935) Alaska Five Cent Bingle MS62 NGC. Among the Federal Government's attempts at economic recovery during the Great Depression was the Matanuska Valley Project. Rural Alaska colonists received "Bingle" tokens of various denominations, which could be redeemed only at Alaska Rural Rehabilitation Corporation stores. Although the aluminum 5 Cents piece had a mintage of 5,000 pieces, most were eventually redeemed. A prooflike example that has light tan toning and no obtrusive marks. Listed on page 385 of the 2007 Guide Book.
From The Troy Wiseman Collection.
