Select 1839-O Bust Half Dollar
1839-O 50C MS63 PCGS. Original gunmetal-gray patina does not conceal the shimmering cartwheel luster. Well struck for the type, with only a trace of softness on the final D in UNITED and the first S in STATES. The reverse and the portrait are well preserved, while scattered abrasions on the obverse field are concealed by the toning. Both sides have lengthy peripheral die cracks, as made, and the mintmark is repunched south. Other than the extremely rare proof 1838-O, the only New Orleans Capped Bust Half issue. Population: 8 in 63, 17 finer (7/04).(#6181) (Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24G7, PCGS# 6181, Greysheet# 6250)
