1793 Chain Cent, Periods Obverse
AU Details Example of S-4

1793 Chain 1C Periods -- Tooled, Burnished -- NGC Details. AU. S-4, B-5, R.3. On the obverse of this 1793 Chain cent, struck from the obverse die that shows periods after the obverse legend and date, several post-striking flaws account for the details grade. Tooling is visible throughout the obverse, and the strange grayish areas at parts of the margins on both sides hint at mischief. The surfaces, brown with blue and green overtones, are too glossy and have been burnished. Even so, of the two sides the one with the chain is far more appealing, and the coin has AU details with only a hint of actual wear to go with assorted rim bumps. For a collector seeking an example of the reverse, taking a look at this piece will be worthwhile. Our EAC grade Fine 15.
