Finest Certified Proof 1863 Seated Liberty Dime

1863 10C PR68 ★ Cameo NGC. Struck during the height of the Civil War, just a few weeks before a famous battle took place in nearby Gettysburg, just over 100 miles away. Just 460 Proof examples were coined between March 5 and May 26. These were minted in three different groups during that period. This example is the single finest Proof coin surviving today, one of just 110 Proof 1863 dimes certified by NGC. Of that total, 17 have been certified as Cameo or Ultra Cameo, with the next best of those certified PR67 Cameo. In addition, two non-cameo examples have been graded PR68 by NGC.
An amazing Superb Gem Cameo Proof, the surfaces are fully brilliant without toning. The fields are deeply mirrored with exceptional frosty luster on the devices. The contrast is exceptional. In fact, this is a borderline Ultra Cameo Proof example, and it should prove to be highly desirable to prospective bidders. Population: 1 in 68, 0 finer (1/05).(#84756) (Registry values: N4719)
