Description

1916-S Half Eagle, MS64
Final S-Mint Half Eagle

1916-S $5 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Despite the discovery of a significant hoard in El Salvador in the late 1970s, the 1916-S half eagle remains elusive in higher Mint State grades, and is highly sought-after as the only half eagle produced in 1916. Rich orange-gold luster blankets this near-Gem representative, with subtle silver-green overtones seen intermixed over both sides. The surfaces reveal only a few insignificant grade-defining grazes, with excellent overall visual appeal. The details are sharply struck, though some minor softness is noted on the back of the eagle's neck. Housed in an old green label holder. PCGS has seen only 14 numerically finer submissions (3/14).(Registry values: N4719)
