Description

Scarce 1865-S Perfect Date Ten, Choice XF

1865-S $10 XF45 NGC. Perfect Date. As such, scarcer than the blundered die variant that shows the date inverted beneath the prominent date. According to Akers, this issue is comparable in rarity to the 1860-S and 1867-S and is more difficult to locate than the 1858-S, 1859-S, 1862-S, and 1863-S. Most survivors are well worn and grade between VG and VF. A problem-free XF coin should be considered a significant find. The surfaces on this piece are bright overall with deep reddish-russet patina surrounding the devices. Weakly struck, the only noticeable abrasion is a tiny mark in the center of Liberty's cheek, otherwise light contact marks are widely scattered about and do not significantly affect the appearance of the coin.
