Description

Scarce Charlotte Quarter Eagle

1848-C $2 1/2 AU 55 NGC. Approximately 115 to 125 specimens are believed to have survived from an original mintage of 16,788 pieces, and of those survivors very few AU and Mint State specimens are known. Golden-green color drapes both sides of this lightly circulated specimen. Some weakness is noted on the reverse as a result of being struck from a bulged die. Some of the original mint luster is present and the coin is free of any consequential blemishes.
