Description

1801 Almost Uncirculated Ten Dollar

1801 AU 50 PCGS. Wide Date. B. 2-B. A pleasing, golden-orange example of this popular, early gold type. Light circulation accounts for the fuzzy traces of friction in the fields, but there are no large or distracting abrasions. Of special note on this coin is the unusually weak strike seen on the left portions of each side. On the obverse from stars 1 through 4 the details are weak. This is from misaligned dies, as one can readily see by flipping the coin over. On the same area on the reverse, that is, from the T in UNITED through the eagle's wing tip, the definition is equally ill-defined. Of course, the striking details on the right portions of each side are unusually well defined from this same misalignment.
