Description

Astounding Cameo Proof 1896 Ten--PCGS PR 65

1896 PR 65 PCGS. Of the 78 proofs struck in 1896, both Breen and Akers have estimated that perhaps only 20-25 pieces still exist today. Very scarce in gem and better grades, this phenomenal coin has incredibly deep mirrors that provide a nearly black backdrop to the frosted golden devices seen on each side. There are very light, almost imperceptible hairlines in the fields. The only visual distraction we see are a couple of tiny blemishes between stars 6 and 7. A very impressive type coin and undoubtedly one of the finest known of this scarce date. Population: 4 in 65, only 1 finer (4/98).
