Very Elusive, High Grade 1868-S Half Eagle

1868-S $5 AU55 ICG. Well defined on the obverse, with more noticeable flatness on the eagle's neck feathers. Liberal portions of luster remain despite a milky haze seen over both sides. The 1868-S is scarce overall, and is one of the great condition rarities of the entire Half Eagle series. Only a few examples of this elusive issue are known in finer grades.(#8316) (Registry values: P3)
