1879 Marriage of Prince Arthur and Princess Louise Silver Medal
1879 Marriage of Prince Arthur and Princess Louise Medal. BHM 3052, Eimer 1662. Silver, 64 mm, 154.7 gm. Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearne married Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia on March 13, 1879. This majestic medal commemorates that event. Conjoined busts facing left on the obverse and signed J.S. & A.B. WYON at the truncation. An elaborately detailed reverse features a dual coat of arms. Light hairlines on the obverse indicates a light cleaning of that side, although the entire medal has toned in a blend of blues and rose, thus concealing surface imperfections. The reverse is a stunning display of electric-blue and lavender iridescence atop nicely mirrored fields. A slight rim bruise at 10 o'clock on the obverse is noted only for the sake of full disclosure.Auction Info
