1881 Rutherford B. Hayes, U.S. Assay Commission Medal, JK-AC-24Aa, R.5, Uncertified. Silver, 33 mm. By George T. Morgan and Charles Barber. President Rutherford B. Hayes faces left on the obverse. The reverse legend translates from Latin as "Lest the Republic suffer any loss," a mission of the U.S. Assay Commission. Exquisite cherry-red, apple-green, and rose-red toning endows well-preserved surfaces. Original box included.From The John Jay Knox Collection.
