Description

Vibrantly Toned Transitional 1860 Half Dime

1860 H10C Transitional MS64 NGC. Breen-3097, Judd-267, Pollock-315, R.4. In 1860, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA was moved from the reverse of the half dime to the obverse, replacing the thirteen stars. Pieces dated 1859 and 1860 exist that combine the obverse type of 1859 and the reverse type of 1860. These coins are listed as patterns in the Judd and Pollock references, but they are also traditionally collected as part of the Seated half dime series. This prooflike example has lovely electric-blue and golden toning. The soft strike does not efface roller marks present on HALF DIME, but the surfaces appear unabraded.
