Description
Ferdinand VI gold "La Luz" 8 Escudos 1750 So-J MS62 NGC, Santiago mint, KM3, Cal-822. First year of issue. Salvaged from the "Nuestra Señora de la Luz" (sunk in 1752 off Montevideo, Uruguay). Amply lustrous surfaces with mirrored fields, worthy of a Prooflike designation.In 1752, the Spanish ship"Nuestra Señora de La Luz" was headed to Cádiz from Buenos Aires carrying gold bars and coinage. While anchored, it was blown by a storm onto rocks. claiming most lives abord. Most of the treasure was contemporaneously salvaged, with the power hold only re-discovered in 1992, when several Santiago 8 Escudos in exceptional condition were recovered.
