Description

1766 Pitt Halfpenny, AU53
Reddish-Brown Betts-519

1766 1/2 P Pitt Halfpenny AU53 PCGS. Betts-519, W-8350, R.3. Minimally circulated reddish-brown surfaces contain gunmetal accents and a couple of obverse planchet flaws. A trace of rub occurs over the high points of the portrait and ship. The reverse is slightly rotated. These tokens, listed in the Betts reference, are almost certainly of English origin. They celebrate the statesman William Pitt and his repeal of the Stamp Act in 1766. Listed on page 19 of the 2026 Guide Book.
