Great Britain: George IV Obverse Uniface Pattern Proof "Barton's Metal" Crown 1825 PR63 PCGS,...
Description
Desirable Uniface Pattern Proof 1825 Crown
George IV Obverse Uniface Pattern Proof "Barton's Metal" Crown
1825 PR63 PCGS, cf. KM699 (Obverse, only 1826 Listed), cf.
S-3806 (Obverse), ESC-2333 (R6). A rare issue with exceptional
collectability, struck in Barton's Metal (gold-electrolyzed
copper), arguably named after John Barton who was the Deputy
Comptroller of the Mint at the time. This Crown is but one from a
six-piece Trial set, each struck for the first time with the new
Chantry re-styling of George IV. At present, there are only two
graded by PCGS, this desirable representative is the highest of the
pair with a PR63. An overall impeccable opportunity to acquire a
scarcer Trial piece that not only stuns in appearance but also
demonstrates the artistic talents of W. Wyon and J. B. Merlen.
