Description

Desirable Uniface Pattern Proof 1825 Crown

George IV Obverse Uniface Pattern Proof "Barton's Metal" Crown 1825 PR63 PCGS, cf. KM699 (Obverse, only 1826 Listed), cf. S-3806 (Obverse), ESC-2333 (R6). A rare issue with exceptional collectability, struck in Barton's Metal (gold-electrolyzed copper), arguably named after John Barton who was the Deputy Comptroller of the Mint at the time. This Crown is but one from a six-piece Trial set, each struck for the first time with the new Chantry re-styling of George IV. At present, there are only two graded by PCGS, this desirable representative is the highest of the pair with a PR63. An overall impeccable opportunity to acquire a scarcer Trial piece that not only stuns in appearance but also demonstrates the artistic talents of W. Wyon and J. B. Merlen.
