Description
Discovery Piece - Unlisted Jamaican Counterstamped 1/2 Pistole
British Colony. George II gold Counterstamped 1/2 Pistole (12
Shilling 6 Pence) ND (1758) VF30 NGC, KM-Unl, Fr-1 (Unknown),
Prid-Unl., Gordon-Unl. 3.25gm. Floriate "GR" within circular indent
Counterstamp (AU Strong) on Colombia Escudo 1758 PN-J. A momentous
occasion - not only the first time our firm has offered this
counterstamped 1/2 Pistole type, but the first time this
denomination has been offered at public auction in recent memory.
Unlisted completely or listed as "Unknown" in the major references,
this type has flown under the radar despite such high demand for
this Jamaican counterstamped series. Unlike the higher denomination
examples, this piece only bears the GR mark on the obverse, perhaps
due to the thinness of the flan. The coin offers a pale gold appeal
and extremely good detail to the stamp. This opportunity cannot go
unnoticed amongst West Indies enthusiasts.Metal: Gold
Diameter: 19.5mm
Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.
