1813 $5 BD-1, R.2, MS63 PCGS. Ex: The Peh Family Collection.
Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. Among Robert Scot's Capped Head
Left design, the 1813 is the most frequently encountered date. High
grade examples are occasionally available and are the only date in
the series that can be found with any regularity in Mint State for
the rare gold type. This piece is uncommonly well struck with
complete definition on Liberty's hair, the peripheral stars, and
the eagle's plumage. A few light abrasions account for the grade.
The mint luster is exemplary and the lightly marked surfaces show
traces of die rust. Roller marks (as made) are noted along the
right-side reverse dentils.Ex: Ashland City Collection / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2003), lot 4725; Dallas Signature (Heritage, 11/2005), lot 2403.
