Description

1854-D Three Dollar, AU Details
Only Dahlonega Three; 1,120 Minted

1854-D $3 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Winter 1-A. Green-gold surfaces coat lightly worn and well-struck devices, save for the usually seen but not immediately noticeable weakness at the rims. Light hairlines are present on both sides, leading to NGC's assessment of cleaning, but they are not major, and none stand out individually. When the three dollar denomination was introduced in 1854, it saw its only two branch mint issues outside of San Francisco: the 1854-D and 1854-O. The Dahlonega issue is particularly notable, in part due to the popularity of coins from this Mint, but mainly due to the issue's extremely low mintage of 1,120 coins. Most circulated locally, with an average grade for the issue of just 47.6.(Registry values: N7079)
