1848-C Five Dollar, AU Details
Smooth and Appealing

1848-C $5 -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Winter-1. This is a well-detailed piece with light wear and generally smooth and attractive surfaces. A loupe reveals horizontal hairlines on each side that NGC calls attention to, although the coin has since retoned an olive-gold hue reminiscent of what is seen on a lot of original Charlotte half eagles. Some bits of dirt cling to the most protected crevices, not wiped away by the cleaning. A collectible example of this better Charlotte issue, which is scarcer than its mintage of more than 64,000 coins would suggest.(Registry values: P4)
