1723 Betts-113 Medal, AU55
Commemorates the Compagnie des Indies
Founder of New Orleans and Canada

1723 Jeton Silver French East India Company, Betts-113, AU55 PCGS. Ex: Sydney F. Martin Collection-Ford. Silver and steel-blue colors intersperse, along with some charcoal in the protected areas, to create a lovely light-hued patina. This important piece marks the beginning of the Franco-American jeton series, listed in Edouard Frossard's work on the series as Frossard-1. It was made for the Compagnie des Indes, the agency primarily responsible for founding New Orleans, conducting the Canadian fur trade, and essentially founding America's northern neighbor.
