Description
1723 Betts-113 Medal, AU55
Commemorates the Compagnie des Indies
Founder of New Orleans and Canada
1723 Jeton Silver French East India Company, Betts-113, AU55
PCGS. Ex: Sydney F. Martin Collection-Ford. Silver and
steel-blue colors intersperse, along with some charcoal in the
protected areas, to create a lovely light-hued patina. This
important piece marks the beginning of the Franco-American jeton
series, listed in Edouard Frossard's work on the series as
Frossard-1. It was made for the Compagnie des Indes, the agency
primarily responsible for founding New Orleans, conducting the
Canadian fur trade, and essentially founding America's northern
neighbor. From The Costa Family Collection, Part II.
